The South Island Pride Community Centre (SIPCCentre) will continue to grow only with the help of members of the LGBTQ Community on South Vancouver Island.
Please consider volunteering your time and expertise to help the SIPCCentre grow and provide the services needed for all the members of our community. It takes a community to build a community centre.
Volunteer Positions Currently Available
We need a person to provide Board Administrative Support, someone to attend Board meetings, take the meeing minutes, then type them up, and then distribute them to Board Members. The Board meets once a month, and the commitment would be approximately 3 to 5 hours a month.
We have our first Annual General Meeting coming up October 7th. If you would like a chance to make a difference in the LGBTQ community in Victoria and area, think about becoming a Board Member or a committee member. There are many important projects on the to-do list.
For instance, we need people with the skills to work on a committee to locate and develop a physical location for the SIPCCentre. Once we have that, we will need some dedicated people to create the SIPCCentre Library.
Housing for both our homeless queer youth and our LGBT seniors are rising on the horizon as critically important issues.
The SIPCCentre would like to start an LGBTQ book store as a means of creating income to support programming.
The more voices heard at the Board meetings, the better the decisions are likely to be.
The SIPCCS Youth Program is looking for people who would like to help as drop-in facilitators with our Queer Youth Drop-In Program. We have had the program running successfully at the Fairfield Community Centre since last fall. We are working on getting parallel programs up and running in Esquimalt to start late and Gordon Head.
We have two qualified people to provide leadership at each of those two locations, but we could use one or two people to help. It will be necessary for all those working with the youth programs to have criminal record checks and a resume on file with both us and our host organizations.
We are also looking for people with some backgound in in fund raising. In order for SIPCCS to move forward and ensure that we have funding for our programs, we need to engage the community and encourage them to donate. To do this, we will need some help from people who have experience in fund raising and/or are committed to learning.
And of course, we always need help at events like the Winter Solstice Potluck on Dec 12th.
This year is shaping up to be a busy one with lots of growth. There will be lots of interesting things to do and lots of opportunies to learn and be part of our community.
Give some thought to participating.
