LGBTQ Community Winter Solstice Potluck Dinner
Tue. Dec 21st, 5:30-9 pm
Garry Oak Room at the Fairfield Community Centre, 1335 Thurlow Rd, Victoria
This event was such a success last year that we decided to do it again.
The dinner is for all LGBTQ Community members, their family and friends,
as well as our allies. It will be a great opportunity to break bread
with new and old friends.
Cost will be $5 per person, plus a potluck dish. Please list for display all the
ingredients of each dish to help prevent the possibility of allergic reactions.
The SIPCCentre will provide roast turkey and a roast salmon, dressing, cranberry
sauce, and a fruit juice punch, coffee, and tea. The balance of the meal will be
the potluck dishes, and everyone is asked to bring something to share. This will
be a dry event.
The schedule of events will be 5:30-6:00 (all times are on the ish), set up and
arrival. The kitchen will be open if you need anything warmed up and there will
be volunteers there to help. Dinner will start around 6:30 pm. Around 7:30 we will
turn on the microphones for an open mic session. There are already a couple of
groups who want to sing and play for us, so if you would like to sing, dance, play
an instrument, or provide some other form of entertainment, please let us know
so we can schedule you in. Of course, impromptu performances will also be
welcome. We will need volunteers to help clean up.
In an effort to be green, we are asking people to bring their own dishes to eat
from along with your own silverware, etc. You will be able to rinse your dishes off
in the kitchen before you take them home to be washed. No paper plates please.
SIPCCentre will provide recyclable cups for liquids.
We will also need about 4 or 5 people to help set up and take down tables and
chairs, someone to DJ the open mic and the music, and someone to generally
help us organize the event including the 'who is bringing what' list. And of course,
we will need some extra folks to help cook the turkeys and the salmon. The SIPCCentre
will again supply these. Please let us know if you can help with any of these volunteer jobs.
